This how to will explain how to enable message everywhere in windows devices. If you are not fluent with the term “message everywhere”, it is the ability to send and receive text messages (SMS) and instant messages from any of your device; be it phone or PC or Xbox or HoloLens.

  • Launch Skype on your phone. If you don’t have it already installed, you can install from ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9WZDNCRFJ364
    • Note that the app is in preview as of today.
  • Since the phone primarily receives text messages, if you haven’t already merged Skype with messages, the app will ask for it as below.

  • Tap “Set Skype as default”.
    • If you selected “Not now” earlier, you will now need to enable it as below.
    • Navigate to Settings.
    • Search for “Messaging” and navigate to it.
    • Change the “Messaging app” to “Skype”.

  • In the Skype app tap on menu and then settings.
  • Scroll down to SMS.
  • Enable “SMS backup and sync”.

  • You can choose the SMS history you wish to keep from the drop down “Download messages from”.
  • Now launch Skype on your PC / Xbox / HoloLens.
  • Navigate to settings from the menu.
  • Scroll down to SMS.
  • Enable “SMS Sync”.

  • In few seconds Skype will identify the phone where you have enabled the sync.

  • The Skype will now sync the messages and now you will be able to send and receive text messages from any device.

 

Note: To avail this feature, it is mandatory that you are using the same Skype account everywhere. You will also need the latest preview build.
